I never thought I would have a problem losing weight after my pregnancy. After all, everybody who breastfeeds is supposed to burn over a 1,000 calories daily, right? That’s what all my friends were telling me. Well, I am definitely not one of those women that had it easy to lose her weight after the pregnancy. Six months in, I was still 20 pounds over my normal weight and I just couldn’t lose it! Even though I was eating very healthy, working out, and counting calories….nothing helped! I finally figured out a fantastic combo of eating and exercising that allowed me to shed the excess weight. This diet is the only one that worked for me!
Keep in mind that this is a strict diet. Obviously there are easier and less intense diets out there, but this one really works!
First of all, here’s some background info you might not know: Every food is either a protein, a carb or a fat. For example, what kind of food is salad? Believe it or not, it’s a carb. A healthy carb, but a carb. So every time I hear my friends say, “I haven’t had a carb in 10 years”, I have to chuckle a bit.
Anyways, if you want to lose weight and become lean, the most important food you need to eat is protein…. a lot of it! For a women who is 5’3 and around 120 pounds, its around 80 grams of protein a day (70% of your body weight). You can even take in up to your body weight in protein per day. In this case, up to 120 grams of protein.
So what exactly should you eat and how exactly should you exercise?
Here’s my schedule:
6 am– 100% Isolate whey protein chocolate shake with water
7 am– Gym: 20 minutes cardio, 40 minutes of whole body circuit training.
9am– 3 egg whites scrambled. Sometimes I add two lean slices of turkey and/or half an avocado.
Lunch– Mixed green salad with grilled salmon – or sometimes I eat sashimi ( no rice)
Snack: Greek yogurt or almonds (healthy fat ). Always stay away from sugar! Remember, healthy fat is 10 times better than refined sugar!
Dinner– Turkey patties or grilled chicken, with cooked spinach or kale
You can have any protein, just stay away from carbs as much as you can! Even stay away from “good carbs” such as; sweet potatoes, brown rice and oatmeal.
I know this is a very boring diet, but stay determined and always set a realistic goal. You won’t regret it! Your pounds will disappear by the minute! Buying a whole new wardrobe and admiring yourself in the mirror, is NEVER BORING!
My gym tip– Cardio is important for your health but weight training is going to make you lean. By weight training, I mean “whole body circuit training”. The idea of this style of training, is to keep your heart rate up, while still concentrating on building muscle. This way you’re going to lose weight and get lean fast!
